Gee, the traffic is... not very terrific, not very terrific at all!

Hello Everyone!

So today I went into to work, and then travelled into Washington, D.C. with my cousin for one of his prestigious job interviews. It was pretty fun, except for the fact that it took almost two hours round trip. Traffic in and around D.C. is really time consuming, so I've decided that travelling for Christmas will be today's theme. I know what you're thinking: "Hasn't that topic been written about before?" Well, yes and no. I HAVE indeed written about being away from home for Christmas and the idea that if you have the opportunity to go home, you should go home. However, we haven't actually discussed the actual travelling.

Whether you go by bus, car, or plane...or mystical spaceship or some other means of travel, the problem is this: you're ALWAYS going to encounter some amount of traffic. Yes, some places may have more traffic than others, but even being stuck behind a really slow driver should be considered traffic. Anyway, my advice to you is to be patient and crank up the holiday tunes. I'm one of those people where if I have music, and I'm in traffic, I'm obviously not enjoying the traffic, but the music makes it more tolerable.

In one of my favorite Christmas tunes, the artist says "From Atlantic to Pacific, gee, the traffic is terrific." Seriously? Traffic stinks, we all know it; but, we have to deal with it to get to the delicious treats, loving family, and hopefully white Christmas awaits us.

From a personal point of view, I've never had to travel a great distance for Christmas. The most that I have to do each year is about a half hour over the Bay Bridge to get to the Eastern Shore of Maryland (which is basically the middle of nowhere). It doesn't take long, and if you leave at the right time, you won't encounter much traffic. I'm not going to lie; if you leave at five o'clock, you're going to hit rush hour, and you're going to be stuck on the bridge for hours. Just take a half hour, have a cup of hot chocolate, and THEN leave; maybe you can even be "fashionably late."

One thing that I must add, because my mother does read this blog (yeah, my mom's invested in my activities, isn't yours?!) is that we did travel to Florida one year for Christmas. However, since I don't really remember the experience, judging by the fact that I was very very young, I don't really count it as having been away and traveling during the holiday season.

I think that's just about all I have for you today.

Until next time,
Lasagna Claus

  1. Okay-I'm going to try and post here. Again. But I will copy it like you suggested. Yes, we did spend one Christmas in Florida. It was different. We were swimming outside on Christmas eve, under the stars.
But, like you, I like to be home for Christmas. It's where all the memories are. And the people you love. I guess the only time I might travel for Christmas again in the future would be if like you were out of the country or something and couldn't come home. But, it would kinds suck. Because you weren't there. <3
